Our Story
Bella Sofia is Spanish for "beautiful wisdom." As believers, both Laura and Shari know that true wisdom comes from God. In all they do personally, and professionally, their goal is to glorify God and bless others. Their desire is to empower the women who embroider and sew their garments, adding beauty to the lives of the women who purchase their garments.
Born in Mexico, Laura grew up in retail, often working in her mother's artisan clothing store. After college, she moved to Texas to become a bilingual teacher. Next came marriage and motherhood. Caring for her children, Esteban and Andrea, Laura stayed home, but the thought of the beautiful embroidered fashions she admired as she grew up were always on her mind. In 2016, she decided to offer embroidered tops and dresses on her neighborhood exchange site. They were a hit! That was the confirmation she needed to begin an import business.
Two years later, Laura and Shari met at church. Shari was wearing an embroidered Mexican top when Laura introduced herself. Intrigued, Shari expressed a desire to design her own line of embroidered clothing. As a home economics major, Shari had made just about everything from wedding dresses to leather jackets, and her sewing had won numerous awards. After training in Switzerland, she worked in the home sewing industry. She grew up in the 70's and can still remember with great fondness the embroidered clothing that she wore then.
The partnership of these two women - each with different skill sets, coming from vastly different backgrounds, and bringing something unique and wonderful to the table - led to the creation of Bella Sofia Studio.
